Chester Hill Rhinos hosted the inform Sydney Bulls at the Terry Lamb Complex in the much anticipated local derby. With the Bulldogs enjoying a bye in their top three grades a good crowd turned up last Saturday night to see the clash.
The Rhinos made a positive start to the match with Ali Kourouche crossing in the 9th minute of play to open up a 4-0 lead. The Bulls struck back with a converted try to Chris Salem to lead 6-4.
Andrew Aboundader regained the Rhinos lead in the 27th when he finished off an outstanding team try. Again the conversion was unsuccessful as the Rhinos held a two point advantage.
Two tries in two minutes to Mark Butler and Nathan Wynn extended the Bulls lead to 18-8 going into the half-time break.
The second half was all one-way traffic in the opening 20 minutes as the Bulls piled on four unanswered tries to lead 40-8 including a strong double to Suli Koroibulileka to put the match out of the Rhinos reach. To their credit Chester Hill scored two tries in the space of five minutes to Ben Green and John Berkley to cut the margin down to 20 points.
Sydney Bulls had the last laugh on the match scoring late tries to Danny Barakat and Paul English to finish 52-20 victors. After withstanding the early onslaught by the Rhinos the Bulls had a field day scoring nine tries including doubles to Butler, Barakat and Koroibulileka with Wynn landing eight goals from nine attempts and also scored a crucial try for a total of 20 points.
Best for the Bulls were English, Salam, Koroibulileka and halfback Adam Tippet. The Rhinos except for flashes of brilliance were disappointing, but were well served by Khalid Deeb, Ben Green and AJ Pesamino.
