Source: www.parraeels.com.auParramatta has crashed to its second straight defeat in the Toyota Cup, going down 34 points to 24 to St George Illawarra at ANZ Stadium.
The Eels started disastrously and trailed by ten points to nil after as many minutes.
Tries to wingers Joe Vickery and Henry Raiwalui had the Dragons on the front foot while a second to Vickery midway through the half saw them extend their lead even further.
Down by 14 the Eels attacked the Dragons line however it would be some time before they breached the defence, Kris Keating marking his return from First Grade with a try under the posts shortly before the break.
Tony Williams converted for a 14-6 half time scoreline.
Keating was in the thick of the action again soon after, providing a neat hand off for second rower David Baumann to score.
Williams again converted to narrow the gap to two points at 14-12.
From there it all went wrong for the Eels, conceding tries to Clifford Morris, Dean Whare and Jake Marketo to all but find themselves out of contention with 18 minutes left on the clock.
Daniel Mortimer gave the Eels some hope scoring from dummy half with 15 minutes remaining, Williams' conversion leaving the Eels trailing by two converted tries at 30-18.
However a simple try to Dragons centre Kane Linnett soon snuffed out any hope of an Eels comeback, the visitors seventh four pointer re-establishing a 16 point lead.
Eels winger Owen Lauofo finished the scoring for the match, touching down off some good lead up work from Mase Laulu Togagae to see the score finish at 34-24 in the Dragons favour.
