Source: www.raiders.com.auThe CFMEU Canberra Raiders have produced a near-perfect first half of football to set up a dominant 34-16 win over the Brisbane Broncos at Canberra Stadium today.
Justin Carney scored two first half tries in an outstanding NRL debut performance, while Campese, Monaghan and Thompson all grabbed four-pointers to have the Raiders holding a commanding 28-0 lead at the break.
Colin Best touched down for the Raiders in the 50th minute to see the score blow out to 34-4, but the Broncos rallied late against the tiring Green machine defence, scoring two consolation tries to finish off the game strongly.
Michael Weyman had a successful return to on-field action, with the local crowd showing their appreciation as he entered the fray or the first time.
The Raiders will look to take their form on the road next week, when they meet the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium.
In today's earlier match, the Raiders Toyota Cup side got the party started with a 48-8 hammering of the Broncos. Joel Thompson, Josh Dugan and Matt Smith were all standout performers in a brilliant display across the board from the young Raiders side.

Source: www.broncos.com.auWOW Brisbane Broncos' halfback Peter Wallace is out for at least one match after minor groin surgery last night.
While the operation was successful, Wallace will definitely not play against the Raiders at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.
The exact period of rehabilitation needed will not be ascertained until Wallace's surgery settles down next week.
"We will not know when he can get back on the training or playing field until after the weekend," said Broncos' performance director Jeremy Hickmans this morning.
"The operation went well and he is out of hospital today.
"It will just be a matter of assessing him next week to see when he can resume running."
Broncos 2006 premiership-winning halfback Shane Perry has been brought into the Brisbane squad for the Raiders match, with coach Wayne Bennett to finalise his team at training tomorrow morning.
