Mon May 19, 2008 Source: www.titans.com.auJetstar Titans ace Scott Prince rebounded from his State of Origin snubbing to guide the Gold Coast to an historic 24-20 win over the Bulldogs at Skilled Park on Friday night. The classy halfback had been the talk of the state after his controversial omission from the Queensland Origin team and the 28-year-old showed exactly why as he again turned it on to help the Jetstar Titans break a 20-year hoodoo against the Bulldogs. The win, before a crowd of 22,676, saw the Titans became the first rugby league side based on the Gold Coast to defeat the Bulldogs as they continued their unbeaten record at Skilled Park after six matches to start the season. Prince set up the Titans' opening two tries for winger Smith Samau and prop Brad Meyers before Luke O'Dwyer crossed for one himself to give the home side a 16-nil lead after 23 minutes. The Bulldogs scored twice before halftime to claw their way back into the match at 16-10 but Prince again responded with an individual try of his own from close range. Tries to Bulldogs forward Corey Hughes and Reni Maitua helped set up an anxious finish for the home side but the Titans were able to hang on. Jetstar Titans coach John Cartwright praised Prince's character in bouncing back from the drama of the week but suggested he expected nothing less from one of the most consistent and dominant No.7's in the game. "There was a hell of a lot of pressure on him tonight and he responded well,'' said Cartwright. The win, although not the Titans prettiest of the season, ensured the Gold Coast will remain on top of the NRL ladder after 10 rounds of the competition. "Last year we would have lost that game,'' said Cartwright. "It was probably our worst performance of the year footy wise." News Source: www.titans.com.auThu May 15, 2008 Source: www.bulldogs.com.auMitsubishi Electric Bulldogs test pivot Ben Roberts will miss another week with the hamstring strain that sidelined him from last week's Test and club match against the Panthers. Emerging talent Aaron Groom has been called up to make his Bulldogs first grade debut. Groom was unable to make the team flight to the Gold Coast this morning but will join the team early tomorrow morning. Bulldogs latest signing Joe Williams, who signed with the Bulldogs yesterday, met most of his first grade team mates for the first time when he joined them on their flight this morning. Williams completed his first session with the team when they trained late this afternoon at Skilled Stadium. The Bulldogs completed final preparations and familiarised themselves with the new surrounding, having never played at the brand new home ground of the Titans. News Source: www.bulldogs.com.au |
