Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan Warriors progress through to the Final Eliminator against Leeds Rhinos at Headingley-Carnegie on Friday after a hard fought 18-21 win at the KC Stadium against Hull on Saturday night.
The Warriors are now seven games unbeaten and it was some rough tough defence that played a huge part in the Wigan win.
A following of over 3,000 Warriors fans cheered their heroes home and with Hull throwing everything in the final seconds the Warriors held on for another great victory.
It took the Warriors just two minutes to take the lead. Hull lost possession inside their own half through Raynor. Barrett put in a diagonal kick which was dropped by Whiting, Richards was on hand to touchdown. The full back added the extras, great start, 0-6.
A Danny Tickle penalty for the home side on 15 minutes made it 2-6.
On 19 minutes, Hull made a break down the right, Horne, Whiting and then Sing who was held just short. Mark Calderwood held Sing down in the tackle and as the home side looked for a quick play the ball, the Warriors winger was sent to the sin bin for ten minutes.
On 23, Carvell was penalised for holding down in the tackle and Richards added an easy penalty from under the posts, 2-8.
With Calderwood still off, Head put a grubber kick into the corner on 30 minutes and Raynor was the quickest to react, Leuluai had the chance to clear as the ball failed to go dead. Tickle added the conversion from out wide, 8-8.
Within two minutes the Airlie Birds were in again, Richard Horne sneaking over for the four points despite being surrounded by three defenders. Tickle's goal made it 14-8.
Pat Richards struck a penalty for Hull holding down with three minutes of the half left, 14-10.
Wigan drew level eight minutes into the second half, Hock with the try from a Leuluai pass close to the Hull line. This time Pat Richards missed the extras.
Within a couple of minutes, Wigan had gained the lead, Barrett with a defence splitting pass to send Colbon in at the corner. This time Richard hit the goal, 14-20.
On 59 minutes, Millard was put on report for an alleged high tackle on Head.
Hull pressed with a spell of the ball close to the Warriors line but the defence held firm.
As the Warriors got down the other end not surprisingly Pat Richards took the chance to add a point through a drop goal with 72 minutes on the clock, 14-21.
Hull were not yet done with four minutes left as Raynor dived over in the corner for his second of the evening. The conversion was missed.
The home side through eveything at Brian Noble's men but Wigan held on.
Every week has been like a Cup Final for Wigan and the cherry and whites are now just 80 minutes from a Grand Final spot.

Noble reflects on another great nightSun September 30, 2007
Source: www.superleague.co.ukComeback specialists Wigan Warriors have done it again, stunning last year's Grand Final runners-up Hull FC 21-18, to keep alive their engage Super League title dream.
The Warriors produced the biggest comeback in engage Super League history to beat Bradford Bulls in the first round of the play-offs and they recovered a 14-8 deficit to win this pulsating semi-final at the KC Stadium.
They will now take on Leeds Rhinos at Headingley, where they have won twice already this year, on Friday night for the right to meet St Helens in the Grand Final on October 13.
Their breathless victory, achieved in front of a 16,291 crowd, preserved coach Brian Noble's proud 100% record in play-off football outside the Grand Final.
Hull half-back Richard Horne scored the 100th try of his career to give his side a six-point lead just before half-time and Great Britain winger Gareth Raynor touched down twice for the second time in a week but they were mere consolation scores as Hull's season came to an abrupt halt.
The Warriors came from 30-6 down to win at Bradford but this time they let slip an 8-2 lead to trail 14-10 at the break after a fast and furious opening half.
Hull coach Peter Sharp sprang something of a surprise by starting with Danny Washbrook at stand-off in a bid to combat the threat of Trent Barrett but the brilliant Wigan playmaker was quick to make his presence felt.
Wigan were gifted the perfect attacking position when Raynor lost the ball in the tackle and, when centre Richard Whiting fumbled Barrett's high kick on the last tackle, full-back Pat Richards was on hand to pounce for the try inside two minutes.
Richards, engage Super League's leading scorer, added the conversion but former Wigan forward Danny Tickle pulled a couple of points back for Hull with a penalty on 15 minutes after Barrett had been pulled up for a high tackle.
That gave Hull the encouragement they needed after their shaky start and they ought to have made more of two clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Slick handling from Gareth Carvell and Horne released winger Matt Sing but Mark Calderwood got back to make the tackle, even though he was sin-binned for holding his man down.
It seemed a small price to pay for a cynical foul, especially when the visitors looked like keeping their line intact while down to 12 men.
Hooker Thomas Lee reached the line with a run from dummy half but was unable to ground the ball while a clean break by centre Kirk Yeaman came to nothing when the final pass went to ground.
Calderwood was still waiting to come back on the field when Hull struck a crucial blow, Raynor chasing Matthew Head's kick to the corner and getting the decisive touch ahead of a hesitant Leuluai.
Tickle's touchline conversion levelled the scores and Horne put his side in front when he demonstrated remarkable strength to force his way past four defenders for his landmark try on the last tackle.
Tickle kicked his third goal to give Hull a six-point lead but Richards cut the deficit with a penalty three minutes before the interval to leave the game still delicately balanced.
The match developed into an arm wrestle in the second half but Wigan made good ground on the back of successive penalty awards and they drew level when second rower Gareth Hock accepted Leuluai's short pass and burst out of the attempted tackle of Washbrook to score his side's second try.
Richards was off target with the conversion to lose his 100% record but another penalty enabled the Warriors to maintain the momentum and they added a third try just four minutes later when Barrett's cut-out pass found Liam Colbon unmarked on the left flank.
This time Richards added the goal to put his side 20-14 ahead as the game entered the final quarter.
Hull ignored a simple kick at goal when Wigan hooker Shane Millard was placed on report for an alleged high tackle on Head but the visitors' defence held firm.
Richards, who landed the first drop goal of his career to win the match against Bradford, put over his second to put Wigan two scores in front.
Raynor grabbed his second try four minutes from the end but Tickle crucially missed the conversion and, although Wigan were twice forced to drop out from their own posts in a tense finish, they hung on for another famous victory.
