Source: www.hullkr.co.ukHull Kingstone Rovers recorded another magnificent victory, thanks to a heroic defensive effort against the Leeds Rhinos.
After a memorable evening in Wigan the previous week, the Robins were looking for another strong display against the all-stars of Leeds. And they got just the start they wanted, with Gareth Morton kicking a fifth minute penalty.
Shortly before this however, Rovers' had a narrow escape when Jamie Jones-Buchanan had a try rubbed out by the video referee for a knock-on. But the video referee didn't come to Rovers' aid shortly after. Ashley Gibson was awarded a try as he just managed to ground the ball before being bundled into touch. Kevin Sinfield added the conversion to edge Leeds into the lead.
The video official was becoming the busiest man in the ground, as he was called on again mid-way through the half. But this time he did aid the Robins, adjudging that Lee Smith was put into touch by Ben Cockayne.
It was proving to be a very even contest, with both sides testing, but being unable to break the opponents defence. Then, seven minutes before the break, the Robins got a roll on, allowing James Webster to put an intelligent kick into space, and the Australian was the first to the bouncing ball to touch down. Morton kicked the extras to put the Robins back into the lead.
The Rhinos responded immediately though, with Lee Smith touching down after some great handling. But the Craven Park faithful were less than impressed with referee Richard Silverwood, as the last pass would not have been out of place in an American Football game.
Half Time: Hull Kingston Rovers 8 Leeds Rhinos 10
Despite the blow dealt to them just before the break, the Robins came out full of enthusiasm and they were rewarded within five minutes. A delicate grubber kick from Ben Cockayne evaded Brent Webb and was touched down by Luke Dyer. Morton was again on the mark with the conversion and Craven Park was bouncing again.
The Robins extended their lead shortly after, thanks to another Morton penalty, this time for offside at marker. All the action was on the Leeds line, as the Red and Whites looked to drive home their advantage. It looked as though the Rhinos were going to hold out until James Webster put up a high cross-kick. Byron Ford fielded the ball, before flicking the ball out to Andreas Bauer, and on his debut, the Kiwi took great pleasure in touching down. Morton added a superb touchline conversion to extend the Rovers lead further.
Rovers were once again putting on a great show for the Sky cameras and for a packed Craven Park, but everyone knew the danger that Leeds pose, and sure enough the Rhinos crossed in the form of Ashley Gibson. With just over ten minutes to go, the game was finely balanced, with Leeds desperately seeking another score. Wave after wave of Leeds pressure was being resisted by the Robins, but then came a key moment. Jamie Peacock thought he had a try, but after long deliberation, the video referee said that Cockayne had prevented the Great Britain captain from grounding it.
Leeds were camped on the Rovers line, but the Red and White wall was repelling everything the Rhinos could throw at it, with nothing short of heroic commitment. Finally, the line broke, with Ashley Gibson claiming his hat-trick try. Sinfield added the extras, but with only a matter of seconds left on the clock, it was too little too late, and the Robins took another valuable and memorable two points.

Source: www.leedsrugby.com this weeks edition of Headingley Carnegie Insight, Leeds coach Tony Smith looks ahead to the Rhinos game at Hull KR this Saturday, kick off 6:05pm.
ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKS GAME?
We are looking forward to going back to Hull KR for our first visit there as a club for many years and my first game there as coach of Leeds. The reports are that it is going to be a full house so it should make for a fantastic atmosphere and I know there are a lot of Leeds fans travelling across to give us some great support. It should make for a great occasion, which I am sure both sets of players with thrive in.
HAVE YOU BEEN SURPRISED BY HOW HULL KR HAVE STARTED THE SEASON?
I have been asked that question a lot this week and I would have to say yes and no. They have done very well so far this season but perhaps people forget that they have been playing winning rugby for the last 18 months and that is bound to build confidence within a group of players who have been together for a long time. They have also added some quality players in the close season and they are well coached team so I am not too surprised that they have been playing quality rugby but they have certainly upset the odds at the start of the season.
HOW HAVE YOUR SIDE PREPARED THIS WEEK?
The players have looked good in training this week. We made sure we had enough recovery time at the start of the week after a hard game in wet conditions against Huddersfield this week. The players are feeling fresh especially given the fine weather we have had in recent days which has made training that bit more enjoyable than in the past couple of weeks.
BURROW LOOKING FORWARD TO TAKING ON OLD TEAM MATESRhinos scrum half Rob Burrrow is looking forward to taking on a Hull KR side this Saturday that includes five of his former Leeds Academy team mates.
The Robins have got off to a great start in their inaugural engage Super League season and there will be plenty in the Hull KR dressing room keen to put in a big performance on Saturday evening. Scott Murrell, Gareth Morton, Jason Netherton, Tommy Gallagher and Danny Ward all came through the Academy system at Headingley Carnegie and Burrow is looking forward to catching up with his old team mates.
"They are all fantastic players and they are fulfilling their potential now with Hull KR. No doubt they will be out to prove a point but it will be good to go up against them.
"I played at half back with Scott on a couple of occasions in pre-season games at Leeds and we had a really good understanding. He is a great tactical player and a tough defender. I have always rated Jason Netherton very highly having played in the same team with him all the way through at Leeds and for England. He has a phenomenal work rate and it will be different playing against him.
"Tommy Gallagher is a great laugh but also a great player with all the skills. He played against us for Toulouse a couple of seasons a go and had a big game so I would expect the same from him on Saturday.
"Gareth Morton has returned from Rugby Union and it is like he was never away, he is a very athletic player and very skilful and finally Danny Ward is a player that we know all about. Danny was outstanding last year for Castleford when we played against them and he will be up for a big game," added Burrow.
Burrow is one of three Leeds players chasing a personal milestone this weekend. He needs four tries for a career century of touchdowns in club and representative matches as he approaches his 200th match. The scrum half has scored 84 tries for Leeds plus 12 in representative matches in 199 appearances.
Keith Senior needs three tries for a career total of 200 in club and representative matches whilst captain Kevin Sinfield is just 23 points short of overtaking former skipper Iestyn Harris to become the fourth highest points scorer of all time for Leeds.
The 18 man squad in full is:
1 Brent Webb
2 Scott Donald
3 Clinton Toopi
4 Keith Senior
5 Lee Smith
6 Danny McGuire
