Source: www.quins.co.ukHarlequins Rugby League will have to settle for a draw after a pulsating opening home game at the Twickenham Stoop.
Michael Korkidas forced his way over with just two minutes remaining to level the scores at 18-18. David Hodgson failed to land what would have been a match-winning conversion.
Harlequins stormed out to a 14-nil lead which would have been more but for two missed Paul Sykes conversions.
It was a blitzing start for Quins with Tyrone Smith the first across for the new home season after collecting a superb Danny Orr cross field kick. Fullback Chris Melling was next across for the home side just five minutes later, before Sykes went in on 17 minutes.
John Wilshere crossed in the corner on the half hour mark with Luke Robinson collecting the Reds second try as the hooter sounded for the break.
Three minutes after the restart Julien Rinaldi darted over giving the home team an eight point buffer.
Andy Coley barged his way over with just five minutes of play remaining, Hodgsen failing to convert.
Then, when victory looked pretty much assured a late minute raid saw Korkidas ended any thought of an opening home game party.
Quins looked the better team throughout but after 80 minutes the scoreboard told a different story.

Source: www.quins.co.ukHarlequins RL Head Coach, Brian McDermott says last weekend's win against champions St Helens is a thing of the past.
"It (the win) has been well and truly put to bed although of course it gave us a lift in training earlier in the week.
"As a team we are still putting a lot of things in place but we are working very, very hard. We are expecting a tough contest with Salford. They are a very good side.Quins have named the same team that defeated Saints with Mark McLinden, Daniel Heckenberg and Andy Smith added to the squad. Two players will come out of the 20-man team on Friday afternoon although it is possible Smith, who joined the club this week, could be handed his Harlequins debut.
The club received a further boost this week with a late rush on season tickets, and more sales are expected as late as Friday afternoon.
Chairman Ian Lenagan is not surprised that interest has stepped up a gear after last week's euphoric win:
"Supporters have already seen even before our first game at home, that the team is full of character and prepared to get results from hard work. That is exactly what our fans want to see. The club is looking strong both on and off the pitch."Season Tickets can still be purchased from just £99. If supporters do wish to buy a 2007 Season Ticket ? even as late as Friday ? they can be left for collection at the game.
Alternatively, try before you buy. Simply attend the game and keep hold of your match ticket and the club will then deduct what was paid for the match ticket off the price of a 2007 Season Ticket. Some conditions apply.
The new-look away shirt will go on sale for the first time in the Club Shop this Saturday. The new-look design has been kept under wraps although it is the result of a pre-Christmas fans' opinion poll. More than 300 Quins RL supporters lodged their votes. The new home shirt will also be on sale for the first time this Saturday.
In other news, interviews with Captain Rob Purdham and former Quins RL team-mate, Luke Dorn who is now with Salford, will appear on Thursday night's rugby league segment on BBC London 94.9fm from 9.30pm.
20-man squad as follows:
Gafa, Grayshon, Heckenberg, Hill, Hopkins, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, McLinden, Melling, Mills, Orr, Paul, Purdham, Randall, Rinaldi, T Smith, A Smith, Sykes, Temata, Wells, Worrincy
Saturday's game against Salford City Reds kicks off at 6pm at the Twickenham Stoop. Match tickets start at just £12 - call 020 8410 6000.
