Bulldogs forward Kane Cleal has tonight undergone surgery on a broken jaw.

Cleal left the field early in the second half of the Bulldogs 14-12 victory over the Sharks at Toyota Park after a high shot from Sharks prop Ben Ross connected with his head.

Cleal lost several teeth and the right side of his lower jaw had shifted backwards one centimetre. Bulldogs doctor Hugh Hazard said it was one of the worst broken jaws he had ever seen and Cleal was taken straight to Baulkham Hills Private Hospital with Bulldogs CEO Malcolm Noad.

Results of the surgery will be known later tomorrow.
