A week of turmoil of Roosters didn't get any better with Parramatta comfortably defeating the Roosters 36-16 after leading 22-0 at the break.
Roosters hooker Craig Wing announced at a press conference staged by the Roosters on Wednesday that he would be leaving the Bondi Junction club after eight years of service and return to South Sydney where he originally made a name for himself. The whole process of the Wing departure from the Roosters statement on their official website on Monday before Wing confirmed to signed anything to the infamous press conference to last night had disaster for their match against the Eels written all over it.
Wing was heavily booed by Roosters supporters when his name was announced in the pre-match and to his credit Wing gave it his best where he made made 43 tackles (three missed), eight runs and five tackle breaks and only Craig Fitzgibbon with 56 made more tackles than Wing. The effort and performance from Wing was there, but the whole drama and fanfare took its toll on the club despite the best efforts of Chris Anderson who Wing acknowledged was the only person at the Roosters who wanted him at the club in the last 18 months.
Parramatta led 22-0 at half-time with a former Rooster Brett Finch doing plenty of the damage. Finch was released from the Roosters at the end of last season with a year remaining on his contract and his departure wasn't exactly pleasant. A group of supporters known as 'FOFF' organised a campaign to remove Finch from the club and a well publicised on-field dust up with Fitzgibbon flared up making Finch's time at the Roosters almost impossible.
It was sweet revenge for Finch returning to Aussie Stadium for the first time since leaving the Roosters and he played a big part in the Eels first half domination, but was quieter in the second.
Ben Smith (8th), Nathan Hindmarsh (13th), Luke Burt (27th) and Krisnan Inu (29th) scored Parramatta's first half tries to lead 22-0 as the Roosters players and referee Gavin Badger were booed off the field.
The Roosters had to be first scorers after the break and they were just that with Fitzgibbon scoring outwide. Two tries in three minutes including an intercept from Jarryd Hayne put any chances of a comeback to rest as Parramatta raced to a 30-4 lead.
Shaun Kenny-Dowall crossed in the 58th minute and Sam Perrett seven minutes later to bring some respect to the score, but Parramatta had the final laugh when the impressive Burt crossed for his second try.
The reputations of Hayne, Burt and boom second-rower Feleti Mateo continues to rise and Nathan Hindmarsh again showed what a class act he is leading the Eels from the front.
Unfortunately for the Roosters, the events of the last week took its toll and they were unable to make it three wins on the trot. With Wing firmly committed to the Roosters for the remainder of the season and Anderson moving the club into the right direction on and off the field - positive results are only around the corner for the Bondi based club.
