Wed June 27, 2007 29,346 fans battled Queensland's miserable South East weather to attend Brisbane's 48-18 trampling of the West Tigers. The reigning premiers seem to have finally found their rhythm after completing there first back to back to win of the 2007 season. Tonie Carroll blitz the Tigers left hand side defense setting up his fullback Karmichael Hunt to score under the posts from there first set of six. The Tigers soon went on the attack when the kick from the restart hit the post allowing hooker Robbie Farah to scramble over to even the scores. Carroll went on to set up a four pointer for his captain Darren Lockyer before grabbing a four pointer of his own before the 20th minute. Brisbane went on with assault to take a 28-6 lead at halftime. Queensland centre Justin Hodges scored his 2nd try of the night screaming onto a questionable past from Darren Lockyer. Tiger's halfback John Morris stepped through some soft Brisbane goal line defense to score under the black dot, raising hopes of the Tigers faithful. Broncos winger Steve Michaels crossed soon after from a set move, destroying little hope a Tigers comeback. Michaels was disallowed a double after the video ref found him guilty of putting a foot on the touch line. A accurate kick allowed Tigers Five-Eight Chris Lawrence to score in the 67 minute before the Broncos found themselves a man down after unsigned prop Petero Civoniceva found himself in the sin bin for being the 2nd man into a in-all brawl when Tigers forward Bryce Gibbs seemed to jump on already tackled Bronco Corey Parker. A man down but Brisbane looked unstoppable when Steve Michaels raced almost 40 metres setting up Karmichael Hunt for his second try of the night. Brisbane showing no mercy when Justin Hodges split the Tigers defense once more in the 80th minute setting up Karmichael Hunt for a hat trick of tries. Broncos coach Wayne Bennett stated he was happy with the attitude that his team brought tonight. Brisbane face Penrith this Saturday night, seeking revenge but will be without their Origin stars. The Tigers will travel to the nations capital to face the Raiders on Sunday hoping to come out of the sudden form slump. Submit your articles (reports, news or editorials) to website@rleague.com |
