Source: www.raiders.com.auThe CFMEU Canberra Raiders have come from behind to snatch an unlikely 16-10 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs, in a scrappy affair at Telstra Stadium tonight.
Trailing 10-6 with just over 10 minutes to play, the Raiders crossed for two late tries through Todd Carney and Adrian Purtell, then hung on grimly as Souths squandered a couple of real chances to send the game into golden point extra time.
A solid start from the Raiders was not enough to see them grab an early advantage, and when mistakes started to creep into their game Souths pounced through a Shannon Hegarty try to go to a 6-0 lead, which they held until halftime.
The Raiders looked anthing but competitive as their handling error woes continued in the early stages of the second half, but a superb try out of the blue to winger David Milne locked the scores at 6-all with 30 minutes to play.
Two penalty goals saw Souths re-gain the lead, before Neville Costigan linked up with Carney to see the Raiders stick their noses in front. Purtell then touched down with 3 minutes on the clock after Bronx Goodwin capped a fine NRL debut by leaping high over the Souths defence and knocking a bomb into the centre's waiting arms.
