Williams faces two weeks on the sidelines
Mon March 19, 2007
Bulldogs forward Sonny Bill Williams has been charged by the NRL with a Grade 2 Reckless High Tackle from the Round 1 encounter with the Knights.

Williams was sent off after three minutes following his tackle that saw Andrew Johns stretchered off the field.

The charge carries a base penalty of 350 points (3 week suspension). If an early guilty plea is lodged the charge is reduced to 262 points (2 week suspension).

It's the first time that a tackle of that nature has been deemed reckless instead of careless and the NRL now has to be consistent in their rulings for future tackles.

The Bulldogs have until midday tomorrow to enter an early plea or contest the charge.

Meanwhile, Brisbane lock Tonie Carroll has been cleared of eye gouging Cowboys utility Sione Faumuina.

Further scans this afternoon cleared Andrew Johns of serious injury or facial fractures.

Andrew is highly unlikely to take part in this week's Knights / Dragons match and the final determination of when he next plays will be made by the club's doctor.

The Newcastle Knights will provide updates on Andrew's condition as information becomes available.

No further comment can be offered until then.
