Tue August 15, 2006 Source: www.quins.co.ukA gripping last quarter hour at the Stoop as Harlequins RL held on by two points for a critical win over the reigning Super League Champions. With five tries apiece it was the boot of Henry Paul which decided the eventual winner, the match in the balance until the very last second. When last at home Quins brought down Hull FC by the same winning margin and this game was every bit as exciting. Missing captain Mark McLinden and Thomas Leuluai was never going to help Quins' cause and after 14 minutes the home side had seen Leslie Vainikolo and Marcus Bai each collect four points. When last in town the Bulls were up 30-0 after fifteen minutes so this start for Quins was not quite as bad, but not what the doctor had ordered. When hooker Chad Randall went in after 20 minutes things looked much brighter for the Quins but normal service resumed at the other end just one minute later when Shontanye Hape strolled in. The game took a sudden turn in favour of Harlequins before the break when Brian Mac's men ran in three tries in a five minute burst. A long range Luke Dorn intercept was followed by Lee Hopkins's try before Randall added his second to give Harlequins a 22-14 lead at the break. The Bulls made a mess of the restart and Quins took quick advantage with Tyrone Smith crossing after three minutes of the restart. That would be the last try of the day for Quins. Paul Deacon went in adjacent to the posts and added the extras before an Henry Paul penalty goal to restored the Quin's eight point lead. Brett Ferres crossed for the Bulls with some 25 minutes remaining and although there were no points in the final quarter it was an enthralling tug-o-war finish with the Quins outlasting the champions.
