Salford City have continued their great start to the Super League season defeating an injury hit Warrington outfit 22-6 and now sit in equal position following Bradford's victory over Leeds.
Warrington were without regular stand-off Lee Briers, which saw Chris Bridge move out to stand-off and super-sub Michael Sullivan filled the halfback position. Bridge who has been in fine form for the Wolves was carried off early in the first half after being carried off the field after sustaining an ankle injury. Scans have revealed no broken bones but it's unlikely how long he'll be out for.
All the points were scored in the first half with the second half not seeing a point scored. Salford City opened the scoring in the 14th minute when fullback Karl Fitzpatrick scored with John Wilshere adding the extras for a 6-0 lead.
Winger David Hodgson scored Salford City's second try on 22 minutes when he crossed over with Wilshere unable to convert the try and also missed a penalty goal three minutes prior to that.
Henry Fa'afili scored Warrington's only try in the 29th minute with Paul Noone landing a successful conversion.
Tries to Stuart Littler and Luke Robinson in the final two minutes of the first half pushed Salford City to a 22-6 lead but that was to be the last of the scoring as both sides missed opportunities and couldn't hold the ball at crucial times.
Salford City coach Karl Harrison said,
"We are not even looking at the table. All we can do is turn up week in and week out. To get two points away from home is a bonus and I thought we were well worth it.
"With the ball I thought we were quite pathetic at times, we bombed two tries, but defensively to keep a team like Warrington Wolves to one try is a great achievement. We are a very fit, very healthy and very hungry team and we do a lot of defensive work and we needed to because we kept giving the ball to the opposition.
"But we're really pleased with the result, obviously."Warrington coach Paul Cullen said,
"That result had nothing to do with players who were sat in the stand or on the treatment table. It was a game of missed opportunities for us and a fantastic effort from Salford in defence.
"To have four tries correctly disallowed is the story of the game. They took their chances and we didn't take ours. There were a couple of missed tackles and Salford exploited that very well."Scoring Details:
