Source: www.wiganwarriors.comWigan slumped to their seventh league defeat of the season and remain bottom with just two Super League points following this loss at the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
The Warriors could not repeat their heroic comeback of the week before and as a contest it was over at half time as Tony Smith?s men were 32-6 up.
Wakefield got off to a dream start with three tries in the opening ten minutes.
It took Wakefield just 90 seconds to take the lead. Richards knocked on and from the first set of six Michael Korkidas was able to power over for the first try, Rooney added the goal to give the Wildcats a dream start 6-0.
On 8 minutes, Olivier Elima break sent in Jamie Rooney, his conversion made it 12-0. Two minutes later and Solomona and Korkidas combined to send in full back Halpenny. Rooney made it three from three goals and the score was 18-0.
Wigan came close to a try through a Calderwood break, he was tackled just short, but the home side extended their lead on 18 minutes, this time Ned Catic with the break and Jon Whittle with the four pointer. Again Rooney hit the extras 24-0.
Calderwood came close to opening his try scoring account kicking the ball from deep inside his own half, his chase and touch down denied by the in goal touch judge.
On the half an hour mark a Rooney penalty made the score 26-0 to the Wildcats.
To make matters worse, Mark Calderwood hobbled off soon after.
On 32 minutes Wigan finally got some points, Higham and O?Loughlin setting up Brett Dallas for the try, Richards hit the goal and the Warriors with at least something to build on 26-6.Dallas try his 100th for the club.
That optimism lasted only a matter of minutes as Jason Demitriou scored his side?s fifth try, a Rooney goal made it 32-6 and that remained the score until the interval.
Wakefield added another penalty through Rooney on 47 minutes, 34-6.
A mistake by Buchanan from a kick allowed Dallas in for his second try on 52 minutes, this time Tickle missed the conversion 34-10.
Just before the hour mark, the home side were in again, Tickle losing the ball in his own half and Sam Obst raced away unopposed. Rooney?s eighth goal made it 40-10.
A Kevin Brown try reduced the score, the conversion was missed 40-14 and that's how the game ended.
