McGuire scores four as Rhinos destroy Quins

The home side went into this game with nine first team players missing but they showed real passion and committment in the opening exchanges.
Quins were happy to put the ball behind the Leeds defence and defend inside the Leeds quarter and it looked as if that would gain them dividends at the start of the game.

However, their gameplan depended on no missed tackles however after 11 minutes Jamie Peacock bumped off a tackle before charging up field, he fed Richard Mathers who raced clear before popping a pass back inside to give Danny McGuire a simple task of scoring his eight try of the season. Sinfield added the conversion to make it 6-0.

Two minutes later and the Rhinos were in again. Again it was Peacock who bust the line, this time finding Rob Burrow who sprinted up field, drew the full back and passed inside to the ever supporting McGuire to score under the posts. Sinfield again converted to make it 12-0 after 13 minutes.

Burrow then scored the next try after a great break by Lee Smith. The young winger showed great maturity to pass back inside despite the fact that he could probably have beat the last defender to the corner, he took the doubt out of it and passed to Burrow to score under the posts, Sinfield adding the conversion.

McGuire then wrapped up his hat trick, this time it was Keith Senior who set up the move, holding off three would be tacklers to pass to Smith, who fed McGuire for the score.

His fourth was not far behind, again from brilliant play from Smith who broke from his own 20 metre line before passing back inside to McGuire to score. Sinfield converted both to make it 30-0.

The Rhinos finally scored down the right hand side next, McGuire turned provider this time. He ran across the face of the defence and could have scored himself but passed to Willie Poching to touch down in the corner. Rob Burrow had taken over kicking duties with Sinfield off the pitch and had the most difficult effort of the night but slotted it over from the touchline to make the half time score 36-0 to the Rhinos.

Somewhat predictably with such a big lead at half time the second half could not live up to the tempo of the first fourty minutes. Both teams were guilty of poor handling at the start of the second half.

However it took an interception to get the scoreboard rolling again. Lee Smith snatched onto a loose pass by Luke Dorn to race 50 metres for the score. Burrow added the conversion.

The game still failed to ignite however with ten minutes to go the Rhinos turned up the heat on the home side. Lauitiiti powered his way over in the corner before Chris Feather scored his first try of the season after good work by McGuire. The brilliant half back then set up the last try of the night when he unselfishly popped a pass to Keith Senior to score under the posts. The possession came in unusual circumstances as Leeds pushed the home side off the ball against the feed to complete a miserable night for Quins. Sinfield converted all three to make it 60-0 to the Rhinos.

However, the action was not over. With 30 seconds to go, Quins finally broke the Leeds line and raced down field, Senior produced a brilliant try saving tackle and was then harshly sin binned. However, his team mates produced a brilliant defensive set to hold out the Quins and record a fantastic win.
