Sat March 18, 2006 If the New Zealand Warriors are clear cut favourites for the wooden spoon, then the Parramatta Eels wont be too far away from them. In a game more memorable for the errors rather than the skill level, the Eels beat the Warriors 22-14 in front of over 16,000 fans in Hamilton. The Warriors lacked imagination on attack with their first try coming from a very lucky call. A pass coming off Steve Prices shoulder ruled to have been not played at. Their second try was scored off a Nathan Fien bomb, and that was pretty much all they had to offer. About the only thing the Eels could offer in reply was, a halfback who took some control over the game and a team who managed to hold the ball slightly longer than their opponents. It was the sort of football which will hurt gate attendances at Ericsson Stadium in Auckland. Warriors winger, Manu Vatuvei had a game hell want to forget very quickly. Virtually every time he touched the ball, he handed it back to the Eels. Ivan Clearys certainly got some work to do at the Warriors. For the second week running they lost a game they could easily have won, but they continue to make the sort of mistakes youd see down at the U15s. Cleary doesnt have much time to turn around the Warriors fortunes, and with tough matches coming up against the Tigers, Knights and Manly, the Warriors season could be over in no time. |
